The New York Folklore Society notecards are designed by Eniko Farkas, a master folk artist and scholar of Hungarian embroidery, using the elements of the famous Hungarian Kalocsa style embroidery. This style developed from white embroidery in the second part of the nineteenth century. While newer variations use more colors, some people still prefer the Old Kalocsa style for its simplicity. The bird is a typical element of this style, and the image of the bird carrying a letter is a favorite in Hungarian folksongs. 10 each, with envelopes. 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", $8.00 Visit our on-line gallery shop to purchase notecards and shop for other gifts, books, music, and folk art.HOME | ABOUT NYFS | PROGRAMS & SERVICES | PUBLICATIONS | RESOURCES | CALENDAR | WHAT'S FOLKLORE? | MEMBERSHIP | GALLERY | SHOP | SEARCH | CONTACT US © 2008, 2007-1998 New York Folklore Society |
